Why Kona Coffee is The King Of Gourmet Coffee

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

If you ever wondered why different coffee have obtained the titles “best” and “only for gourmets” and “coffee beans of the year” Timothy Schwartz, The Coffee Brewster, wrote a nice article about

Why Kona Coffee is Unmatched by Any Other Bean in the World

Coffee aficionados, all around the world, can agree that the type of coffee bean you use to brew is the determining factor on the quality of the coffee brewed. Whether you are a coffee snob or not, it’s important to educate yourself on what’s available on the market today.

Exotic locations and blends are well advertised because of the quality each possesses in the bean and oils. Places like Hawaii, Sumatra, Tanzania and Kenya are often seen on packaging, that boasts rich smooth flavor. But no one can argue that Kona Coffee is labeled one of the best varieties of coffee beans in the world.

What makes this coffee bean so special? Kona Coffee is harvested on the windy mountains of Hawaii. Mostly from the Hualalai and Mauna Loa mountains, these coffee beans are hailed to be the best tasting coffee world round. This is the only place where Kona Coffee is grown. They are harvested and processed into 100-pound bundle sacks and flown to places all around the globe.

These shiny green beans are left unroasted. This enables the bean to keep its flavor and aroma for the duration of the delivery. Often times, the Kona Coffee bean is blended with other lesser beans to enhance the overall flavor. This combination is known to be Kona Blend. Still delicious in flavor and texture, this Coffee Kona blend is only about 10% pure Kona bean. Although some coffee purists may cry out in vain, most people don’t mind the taste of this blend. In fact, most people seem to not care but just enjoy the coffee nonetheless. Only those who are willing to pay the premium for a 100% cup of Kona Coffee can enjoy it in all its glory. It will cost a fortune.

The Secret to Kona Coffee

But in all honestly, how does the Kona Coffee Bean set itself apart from the rest of the coffee on the market? Surely, there are other rival beans? Mainly due to the tropical climate and rich volcanic soil can the Kona Bean have its distinct richness, unmatched by any other bean?

The body of the Kona Coffee is full with flavor and has minute subtle cues of win and spices. Amongst all the Kona Coffee Bean Types, Peaberry is the most wanted variety. However, the Peabody variety didn’t originate from Hawaii. Reverend Samuel Ruggles brought it over there back in the early 1800, during his missionary working in the area. As time went on, coffee production was a way of income for the people. Despite the rise and fall of coffee through the years, Kona is still ranked and coveted by coffee lovers worldwide.

However, coffee buffs also know that the roasting plays just as important a role in the quality of the coffee made. It goes hand in hand with in the quest of the perfect cup of Kona coffee. Roasting is considered an art form. It can transform the bean into the embodiment of pure enjoyment for the taster. Growing the perfect coffee bean requires the same care and expertise as the roaster. Weather conditions and soil lay the foundation for it. This is the reason why the Kona Bean is seen as unmatched due to the ideal climate and fertile soil it’s farmed in.

Now you can understand why Kona is so praised by coffee lovers all around the world. If you haven’t considered enjoying a cup of Kona Coffee, why not start today? There are many delicious blends available at your local coffee shop and grocery store. You won’t regret it.

Pros: Pleasing Aroma, Balanced Acidity, Attractive Mouthfeel/Body, Exceptional/Interesting Flavor
Best Uses: Single-cup/Pods

As a K-cup, Green Mountain Dark French Roast really works well. It fills the house with a “Come and get it” aroma and goes down
well with no acidity or aftertaste. Highly recommended, particularly for starters with your Keurig.

K-Cup Colombian -Fair Trade

The PERFECT LITTLE cup! Pros: Smooth not bitter, Balanced Acidity,
Attractive Mouthfeel/Body, Exceptional/Interesting Flavor, Good
With Sweetener/Whitener, Pleasing Roast

Using the SMALLEST amount of water from the Keurig single cup brew choices,
this is the most divine cup of coffee I’ve found. If brewed in
the mid-large size, it is too watery but the small cup is fuller
bodied, rich, not bitter. The only trouble I have is finding it
in retail stores… but it’s worth the hunt.

Comparable to Dunkin Donut Coffee
>>>food eye, bristol ct. on 9/21/2008
Pros: Pleasing Aroma, Pleasing Roast, Balanced Acidity, Attractive Mouthfeel/Body
Best Uses: Single-Cup/Pods

My comment about Green Mountain Coffee Colombian Fair Trade Select: I have been trying all the coffee brands. The extra bold is to
strong for me. I’m just ordering dark roasts in different brands. I find the fair trade if used in the medium size cup to be be
pretty close to dunkin donut coffee which is the best. The larger size is a little to weak, but so far this is the best coffee I have tried.

Hands down the best cup-o-coffee
>>> Coffeehaulic from Atlanta on 3/18/2007
Pros: Finish, Full Body, Smooth Taste, Aroma

Keurig k-cups and green mountain Columbian…I have found no better cup of coffee anywhere!!! Not for lack of trying either!! The
quality of coffee makes a huge impact on flavor, but when you combine superior coffee with a superior brewing method………well
let’s just say it was enough to get me to write this review!! Fantastic and consistently excellent flavor!

Green Mountain Hazelnut Blend

Hazelnut Coffee
By LCL from Michigan on 5/5/2008
Pros: Good With Sweetener/Whitener, Long, Satisfying Aftertaste, Pleasing Aroma, Exceptional/Interesting Flavor, Balanced Acidity

Wow I love this coffee!…and I’m drinking my very first cup as I type. I know others have said they don’t like the changed
version of this coffee flavor but for me it tastes great even though I haven’t had a chance to taste the original version of it.
It’s smooth and has the buttery & nutty flavor to it with no nasty after taste. I’m enjoying it a great deal!

I only buy whole bean coffee and I have actually had fresh roasted beans from a coffe shop here in town but they went out
of business a couple of years ago and I had even fallen in love with a non-blended kind of bean that I can’t remember the name
of but it was the best cup of coffee I had ever had! Since then I haven’t been able to get fresh beans and also haven’t been
able to get a good Hazelnut Coffee.

It was painful to buy store bought brands because it’s so old and dried up looking and even had an acid smell to it when
you squeeze the package to smell it! So here I am now (2 years later) trying yet another companies version of Hazelnut, which
is my favorite blend and I must say it’s great to taste something that doesn’t have that acid-like after taste to it.

I must also add…living pay check to pay check I have no problem spending a little extra for coffee beans if it can
live up to the expectations I’ve had in the past from buying them fresh and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters has done that
for me…thank you!

New Hazelnut is not good
By No longer a fan (NY, USA) on 6/29/2008
Pros: It has caffeine
Cons: Unpleasant Flavor, Unappealing Or Flat Aroma

I recently moved away from VT after 15 years of living there. Green Mountain Coffee is a daily reminder of how
wonderful VT is…except the new Hazelnut coffee is not wonderful. It isn’t even good! Please bring back the old recipe!
How about “Hazelnut Classic”?

Tastes GREAT to me!

By Newbee (Halifax, Pa.) on 2/1/2009
Pros: Smooth Taste, Exceptional/Interesting Flavor, Balanced Acidity, Attractive Mouthfeel/Body, Pleasing Aroma

I just started drinking coffee around 5 years ago. I have always liked Hazelnut and have tasted many different kinds.
To me, this is simply the best. Rain Forest Nut is my next favorite. It was GMC coffees that drove me to purchase a
coffee maker and start brewing coffee at home! Visitors in my home comment on the coffee I serve, always Green Mountain!
Thanks!
